Soot Types Include:
Wet smoke residues result from smoldering fires with low heat.
Residues are sticky, smear easily and are pungent. Smoke webs are difficult to clean.
Dry smoke residues are caused by high temperature, fast burning fires.Residues are usually dry, powdery, small, non-smeary smoke particles.
Protein residues have a very strong odor, but are almost invisible. Residues can discolor paints and varnishes.
Fuel oil soot results from furnace puff backs.
